Mr. Etiquette: A Cut Above the Rest

Please understand that your suit is a billboard wrapped around your body. It is imperative you understand this if you are trying to look and be taken seriously. There is nothing I hate more than seeing a GROWN man with a suit that hangs off of him like he bought it from TJ Maxx 10 minutes ago and just ripped the tags off. There’s a standard practice that goes into any man’s suit if you are serious about your suit game and you want others to take you seriously.
First of all, we need to swallow our American pride and rip a few pages out of the Europeans’ book on fashion (which Americans always do because our Wal-Mart fashion is just unacceptable) and take a close look at the cut of their suits. Whether you are plus size, fit, or slim, there’s a cut that is right for everyone.
Here’s the catch: a tailored wardrobe is NOT CHEAP. I understand we are not all in a place to spend the money on tailored outfits but please understand, to look your best you need to make the necessary sacrifice. Here’s a tip: you can take your current wardrobe to a tailor to have shirts, pants, suits, dresses, and any other article of clothing you love tailored to your body for cheaper than buying custom outfits. Please do not run out and get your favored poke-a-dotted dress from the 80’s tailored but your latest outfits can be saved and help you look great!
If you’re purchasing items for the first time like a suit or dress, please consider tailoring and cutting the material to be form-fitting rather than the standard size anyone can buy. And if someone happens to be wearing the same outfit, your distinct cut will make it the two completely unrecognizable!
Something to consider.
